Sacrament of Baptism

Infant Baptism

The Rite of Baptism for Children includes these words, "The Christian community welcomes you with great joy." It is with that exact same great joy that St. Thomas More helps parents prepare for the baptism of their baby.

In bringing forward your child for baptism, you seek to make a permanent connection between your child, Jesus Christ, and the parish community. No matter how close or distant your own current relationship with God might feel, the arrival of this new life has stirred a beautiful desire in your heart to seek baptism for your child. In this holy sacrament, our entire Christian community promises to walk beside you, supporting you in nurturing the faith of your child as they grow.

Please complete the Baptism Inquiry form below. Kyle Kuckelman will be in touch with you shortly to answer any questions, discuss preparation, and confirm a day and time for the baptism celebration.

How to Prepare

What are the Requirements for Baptism?

For a child to be baptized in the Roman Catholic Church, there must be a well-founded hope that the child will be raised in the Catholic faith. In practice, this generally means that at least one parent is a practicing Catholic.

The Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph requires parents to participate in sacramental preparation before the baptism of their children. We are pleased to offer these baptism preparation sessions right here at St. Thomas More. Following the Baptism Inquiry Form submission, the parish office will reach out to schedule your baptismal preparation session. Additionally, Church law requires that each child brought forward for baptism have at least one godparent who is a confirmed, practicing Catholic and at least 16 years of age.

Options for Celebrating the Baptism of Your Child

We offer a few options for celebrating this first, most important sacrament.

  • First & Second Sunday of the Month following the 7:30am, 9:00am, or 11:00am Mass

  • Thirday Sunday of the Month during the 9:30am Mass

  • Fourth Sunday of the Month during the 11:00am Mass

Whichever of these options you choose, you must confirm the date of the baptism with the parish before making further plans. Baptism dates do fill up quickly. To check availability, complete the Baptism Inquiry Form above.
