Anointing of the Sick

The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick is administered to bring deep spiritual, emotional, and even physical strength to those facing serious health challenges. It is a powerful conduit of Christ's healing presence during an illness, before a major surgery, or as one approaches the end of life.

As the Catechism of the Catholic Church reminds us:

β€œThe anointing of the sick is not a sacrament for those only who are at the point of death. Hence, as soon as anyone of the faithful begins to be in danger of death from sickness or old age, the fitting time to receive this sacrament has certainly already arrived.” (CCC 1514)

Parishioners and families are warmly encouraged to seek this sacrament before entering the hospital or undergoing medical procedures.

How to Schedule an Anointing

  • To Schedule an Anointing: Please contact the St. Thomas More Parish Office directly at (816) 942-2492. Our staff will coordinate a time for one of our priests to administer the sacrament.

  • In the Event of an Emergency: If you or a loved one are in immediate danger of death and require an emergency anointing (Last Rites) outside of normal office hours, please call the main parish number and follow the urgent prompt instructions to reach the priest on duty.
