Souper Bowl Saturday

Promoting awareness of hunger, poverty and solidarity with the poor.

 


Patty Waris presented Jerry Cooke with the 2011 Bill Waris Award for outstanding service to those in need.
For more than six decades, Jerry has served the less fortunate in Kansas City through the Chamber of Commerce, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Ozanam, Salvation Army, American Red Cross, Amnesty International, Christian Foundation for Children and Aging, Llamba and Christmas in October.

 
Purpose:
Held in February each year, this event draws attention to the problem of poverty and hunger in the United States. Hunger in the United States continues to increase. Statistics from 2009 show that over 43 million Americans live in poverty and 50 million live in food insecure households - 33 million adults and 17 million children.

Bill Waris Service Award Nomination
For adults demonstrating outstanding service in peace, justice, or outreach to the poor.

Nominations are already in for an individual from Saint Thomas More Parish who demonstrates commitment to peace, justice, or outreach to the poor. The award will be presented at the Souper Bowl.

Bill Waris Certificate of Recognition Nomination
For youth demonstrating outstanding service in peace, justice, or outreach to the poor.

Nominations are already in for a grade school or high school student from Saint Thomas More Parish who demonstrates commitment to peace, justice, or outreach to the poor. The award will be presented at the Souper Bowl.
